🎨 Congratulations to Our GCSE Artists

A huge well done to our fantastic GCSE Art students who completed their final exam on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Over the full 10 hours of exam time, students worked exceptionally hard on their final pieces, showing focus, creativity and real determination.

Invigilators were keen to pass on their praise, commenting not only on the quality of the artwork produced, but also on the maturity, respectful behaviour and professionalism students demonstrated throughout both exam days. Long practical exams are demanding, and the calm, purposeful way students approached them was impressive.

We are extremely proud of our artists and delighted to see weeks of preparation result in such strong final pieces.

🪪 Exam Timetables and ID Cards

Students received their exam timetables and ID cards during tutor time this morning. Students were encouraged to check these carefully, and we would really appreciate parents and carers reinforcing this at home too.

Exam ID Card

Please ask your child to check that their ID card:
  • shows their Year 11 photo
  • includes their student ID number
  • shows the correct exam centre number: 55209
  • uses their full legal first name (for example, Oliver rather than Oli)
  • shows the correct tutor group
Exam Timetable

Students should also check that:
  • their date of birth is correct
  • their candidate number is correct
  • all subjects and exams are listed
  • the correct tier is shown (Foundation or Higher)
  • any access arrangements are shown correctly on the sticker
If anything looks incorrect, students should again go to the Middle School Office or Exams Office at break or lunch time so it can be resolved quickly.

How Parents Can Support

A few simple steps can really reduce stress on exam days:
  • take a photo of the exam timetable on you and your child’s phone
  • keep a copy somewhere visible, the kitchen fridge works well
  • talk through transport arrangements in advance
  • encourage students to check they have their ID card and equipment ready the night before

📱 Education Record App Rollout

Thanks to the brilliant work of our tutor team, we have successfully rolled out the Education Record App to nearly all of Year 11 this week. Thank you to parents and carers for ensuring students were prepared with the app downloaded.

At the moment, the app holds very limited information, but it will become increasingly useful after results day and for students’ future education and employment. It provides a secure digital record, meaning students will no longer need to hunt for exam certificates in drawers, folders or the loft years down the line.

Students who experienced any issues logging in were able to see me during tutor time yesterday, and following some troubleshooting we are very close to having the entire cohort fully set up.

🌍🗣️MFL Speaking Exams

"We would like to inform parents and carers that GCSE Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish) speaking examinations will begin during the week commencing 27th April. Students have been given their individual time by their class teacher, if any student is unsure of their time, please ask them to see their teacher ASAP.

Students are encouraged to complete some final preparation at home by revising their speaking booklet, which they have already received. This booklet is also available on the Student Gateway for ease of access.

When preparing, students should remember the importance of extending their answers by including opinions, giving reasons for those opinions, and using a range of three different time frames (past, present and future).

  • English Intervention – Mrs Harrison (Period 6)
  • GCSE PRE Intervention (Period 6)
Tuesday 28th April
  • French and Spanish Speaking Exams
  • Exam Regulations and Expectations Assembly at 08:40 in the Hall. Mandatory attendance for all Year 11 students.
  • Science Intervention (Period 6)
Wednesday 29th April
  • French and Spanish Speaking Exams
  • Maths Intervention (Period 6)
Thursday 30th April
  • French and Spanish Speaking Exams
  • Health and Social Care Seminar (Period 2)
  • English Intervention (Period 6)
Friday 1st May
  • French and Spanish Speaking Exams
  • English Poem Workshop – Mrs Mallinson (Lunch)
If students are unsure about their speaking exam time or location, or whether they should attend a particular intervention, they should speak to their tutor or subject teacher as soon as possible.

2️⃣ Week 2 Update: Settling In, Stepping Up & Staying Focused

Hello Year 11 families! We’re now into the second week of the academic year, and it’s been fantastic to see our students settling into routines, embracing challenges, and showing real commitment to making this year count. Here’s your weekly roundup of everything happening in Year 11. It’s been a brilliant start across the school. Teachers are challenging students, and students are rising to meet those expectations with hard work and focus. Feedback from staff and learning walks has been overwhelmingly positive - professional relationships between students and teachers are strong, and the mantra “hard now, easy later” is really taking root.
