🎉 Mock Exams: A Job Well Done
A massive well done to our fantastic Year 11 students. They have done brilliantly this week. I have been incredibly proud of their commitment to the mock exams. Students have shown that they are well prepared, understand what is expected of them and have a clear sense of what they need to do ahead of their real exams in the summer. I would like to take a moment to thank all parents and carers for the support, encouragement and calm reassurance you have given your children throughout this mock exam series. Your involvement makes a real difference and we truly appreciate the partnership we have with you during such an important stage of Year 11.
Over the next few weeks in lessons students will begin to receive detailed
feedback from their teachers. This feedback is, as we often say, the ‘breakfast
of champions’ and plays an essential role in helping students move forward with
confidence.
📝 Why Feedback
Matters
Educational research consistently shows that high quality feedback has one of the strongest impacts on student progress, with some studies finding that effective feedback can improve learning by as much as eight months in a single academic year. Further evidence highlights that feedback not only boosts performance but also strengthens students’ ability to judge their own progress and plan their next steps. This is a vital part of successful exam preparation.
For students, this means that how they respond to feedback is just as important as the feedback itself. Acting on teacher comments, reviewing mistakes carefully and applying suggested improvements leads to better learning, stronger exam technique and more accurate self‑assessment. In simple terms, students who take mock feedback seriously often make faster progress and feel more confident when the real exams arrive.
Encouraging your child to revisit their papers, reflect on the guidance given and set small, achievable improvement goals can make a significant difference. We will continue supporting them with this in school and together we can help them make the most of this valuable stage in their exam journey.
I am excited to run an in‑person assembly next week for the first time in quite
a while. The assembly will focus on the final sprint towards exams and how
students should respond to their mock feedback. I look forward to seeing all
students there and appreciate your support in ensuring they arrive at the
school hall promptly at 08.30 on Tuesday morning.
🎵 Music Recital
Highlights
Several of our Year 11 musicians performed at the GCSE & A Level recital on Thursday night. The audience were enthralled with the range of talent on display, from film music to classical to hard rock, the variety was wonderful. Special mention to Owen B who performed an original composition for the first time!
We also have a large number of Year 11s performing at Battle of the Bands on Tuesday 17th March at the Regent Centre. The students have brilliantly juggled revision and exams with rehearsals and are excited to perform to a packed-out Theatre. Tickets are available on the school website; be quick, they are selling fast!
📚 Academic Interventions
and Period 6 Support
Period 6 sessions will resume next week for English, Maths and Science, so please make sure to check your child’s Arbor account for their timetable.
"New Maths groups will be introduced in a few weeks, but if your child was attending Period 6 before the mock exams, they should continue for the next two weeks. Invitations for the new groups will be sent out in due course...
...In Maths, we’re already seeing the positive impact of Operation 40, with students achieving, on average, higher marks than they did in the November paper. We’re keen to keep this momentum going, and our Year 11s will continue to benefit from structured lessons, targeted revision papers, and their weekly exam‑style homework - including a reminder that the C2 paper is due next Monday. We’re also planning a workshop over the Easter holidays, so please keep an eye out for further details and encourage your child to attend. "A huge well done to all students for their efforts and determination in completing their science mocks. Early evidence suggests we’re already seeing an impact from student’s revision and preparation - well done! All classes are now going to benefit from bespoke revision plans that are specific to the needs of the students in each class, with a focus on skills and exam technique. Science homework will now be solely exam practice, although students still have access to Tassomai should they wish to engage with short, sharp retrieval tasks. There will also be an additional Easter revision pack issued to students to provide structure to student’s revision over the Easter break." completed their applications! Students who haven't quite completed their
applications are encouraged to log onto Applicaa ASAP and complete applications
- once we have your application we will be able to invite you to our
