2️⃣4️⃣ Week 24 - Update

Thank you again for taking the time to read this week’s blog. As we edge ever closer to exam season, our focus remains on practical preparation, steady progress and supporting Year 11 through a very full and exciting period.

🎤 Assembly

This week’s assembly was led by Miss Ball, who shared a range of practical revision strategies that students can begin using at home straight away. Her message linked directly to next week’s tutor sessions, which will guide students through planning their revision effectively.

She encouraged students to:
  • Start early
  • Make a clear plan
  • Prioritise topics using colour‑coding
  • Build a realistic timetable they can actually stick to
Her advice was simple but powerful: structure brings calm, and calm brings progress. I’ll be sharing further revision strategies in next week’s blog to help support parents and students at home.

Next week’s assembly will be led by me, where we will talk through Easter priorities as well as celebrate some of the fantastic things happening across the year group.

👥 Parents’ Evening Reminder

A reminder that Year 11 Parents’ Evening takes place this Thursday 26th March, on site, from 4pm.
This is the final opportunity for families to meet teachers before the GCSE exams to discuss progress and gather advice for revision over Easter.

Please note:
🚗 There is no parent parking available on site
👥 We strongly encourage students to attend with you so they can hear the feedback directly.

🎉 Prom Venue Launch

Thank you so much for your patience while we finalised the arrangements for prom. Before announcing the venue, I want to publicly thank the team working behind the scenes - particularly Mrs Cartwright (Finance Manager) and Mrs Alexander - whose hard work has ensured we didn’t lose momentum after the unexpected change of plans. I am delighted to confirm that:

📅 Prom will take place on Monday 22nd June
📍 Queens Hotel, Bournemouth

The hotel has recently undergone an extensive renovation, and after visiting, I’m confident it is a brilliant fit for our students - ideal for vehicle drop‑offs, a lovely space for parents to watch arrivals, and of course, a great dance floor.

More details will follow soon as we begin organising the final touches.

🎭 Drama Exams

Next Friday, all Year 11 Drama students will complete their Drama Performance Exam. To support them, some students will be invited to additional rehearsals on Wednesday 25th or Thursday 26th.

If any student is unsure of their slot, please ask them to check in with Mr Coshan in the Drama office during break or lunch on Monday or Tuesday.

🎸 Battle of the Bands

A huge thank you to our Performing Arts team for organising this year’s Battle of the Bands. We welcomed bands from Twynham, The Grange School and Poole High School and hosted our first ever event at the Regent Centre - which was a sell‑out! It was fantastic to see a strong Year 11 contingent!

The level of musicianship was superb, the atmosphere was buzzing, and it was wonderful to be back in the theatre again. Good luck to all our performers heading to the New Milton Music Festival on Saturday - what an incredible opportunity.

⚽ Football Match Report

Our Year 11 team secured a fantastic 3-2 win in their Town Cup semi‑final against BSB.

Twynham came out strong, capitalising on two early mistakes with goals from Riley and Henry. BSB fought back, converting a penalty before half‑time and equalising late in the second half. With 10 minutes to go, the match could have gone either way - but Twynham dug deep, lifted the intensity, and Harry Rogers secured the win with a calm finish into the bottom corner.

A brilliant performance from the whole team. A rematch against Highcliffe (we think!) awaits in the final!

2️⃣ Week 2 Update: Settling In, Stepping Up & Staying Focused

Hello Year 11 families! We’re now into the second week of the academic year, and it’s been fantastic to see our students settling into routines, embracing challenges, and showing real commitment to making this year count. Here’s your weekly roundup of everything happening in Year 11. It’s been a brilliant start across the school. Teachers are challenging students, and students are rising to meet those expectations with hard work and focus. Feedback from staff and learning walks has been overwhelmingly positive - professional relationships between students and teachers are strong, and the mantra “hard now, easy later” is really taking root. As Head of Year, I’ve been genuinely proud to see this level of dedication from the very first week. There’s a real thirst for success, despite the soggy weather, spirits weren’t dampened - especially during school photo day! Students took real pride in their appearance, with uniforms immaculately worn and hair and makeup on point. No formal ...
