2️⃣1️⃣ Week 21 - Update

I hope you and your family had a restful half term break and that students were able to balance revision with some much needed relaxation. It has been a delight to welcome everyone back into school this week.

We are now five days into the Year 11 mock examination cycle and students have shown excellent maturity, commitment and determination. These exams serve two important purposes. The first is to give students high quality feedback which will guide their revision and next steps. The second is to help them understand the full exam experience, including timing, organisation, routines and the level of focus required in the summer. Learning how to sit exams confidently is a skill in its own right and our students are making strong progress in this area. We are incredibly proud of their efforts this week. Miss Ball has written to parents about the closure of Sopers Lane from Tuesday 3rd March. We don't anticipate having to delay the start of any exams but please be mindful that journey to school may take longer due to traffic build up around the school.

🎓 Post 16 Applications - Message from the Sixth Form Team

We are fortunate to have a range of excellent post 16 options within the local area. For any student considering Twynham 6th Form applications must be completed on Applica. Completing the Twynham application helps us support each student with their progression plans and ensures that everyone has a secure pathway for September. Most progression interviews have now taken place. Any students who were absent will be offered an opportunity to catch up. 

🚗 Traffic and Site Access - Important Information for Parents and Carers

Sopers Lane will be closed from Tuesday 3 March for approximately seven weeks. The works are expected to begin at the roundabout end of the road. During this period, the main Twynham School entrance will remain open, although all vehicles leaving the site must turn right only. Traffic will then need to continue either towards Tuckton Bridge or travel via St Margaret’s Avenue to reach Christchurch. Stour Road behind the school will remain open.

Bargates has also been closed by BCP Council for an undetermined period, which will increase congestion in the local area. Please allow extra time for journeys and plan routes ahead.

Morning Arrival: Temporary Arrangements

To keep students safe during the roadworks, the following temporary measures will be in place:
  • No students should be on site before 8.20 am. Any students who arrive early will wait on the hard courts where staff supervision will be provided.
  • All pedestrian gates will remain locked until 8.20 am.
  • Back gates will be open to cars only until 8.20 am. Students will not be able to enter on foot or by bike through the back of the school before this time.
Where possible, please encourage your child to walk or cycle to help reduce congestion.

Specific Arrangements

  • Music clubs at 8.00 am: Students should arrive at the Riverlea Road (Londis) pedestrian gate where a member of staff will let them in. They should then go straight to the Music block.
  • Breakfast Club: Will start at 8.20 am for the duration of the closure. Students will still have access to suitable breakfast options before school.
We will continue to monitor the impact of the road closure and update families if any adjustments are needed. Thank you for your patience and support in helping us keep students safe during this period.

📅 Key Dates

To finish this week’s blog, I thought it would be helpful to share some key dates for the term ahead. As always, if any of these dates change, I will do my best to keep you updated.
  • Week commencing 9th March
    • GCSE Music recording exams and PE moderation. This will include Netball, Football, Handball and Table Tennis.
  • Thursday 26th March
    • Year 11 Parents Evening (second session).
  • Friday 27th March
    • GCSE Drama Exam
  • Week commencing 27th April
    • Modern Foreign Languages speaking exams.

2️⃣ Week 2 Update: Settling In, Stepping Up & Staying Focused

Hello Year 11 families! We’re now into the second week of the academic year, and it’s been fantastic to see our students settling into routines, embracing challenges, and showing real commitment to making this year count. Here’s your weekly roundup of everything happening in Year 11. It’s been a brilliant start across the school. Teachers are challenging students, and students are rising to meet those expectations with hard work and focus. Feedback from staff and learning walks has been overwhelmingly positive - professional relationships between students and teachers are strong, and the mantra “hard now, easy later” is really taking root. As Head of Year, I’ve been genuinely proud to see this level of dedication from the very first week. There’s a real thirst for success, despite the soggy weather, spirits weren’t dampened - especially during school photo day!
