π Why Mocks Matter
To use Miss Ball’s phrase: “Mocks aren’t about perfection – they’re about progress.”They give students the chance to:
✅ Identify what’s working and what needs more attention.
✅ Build confidence for the real exams in May and June.
✔ Spaced Repetition: Revisit topics over time to help them stick.
✔ Teach Someone: Explaining a topic to someone else is a great way to check understanding.
π§ Revision That Works
Mrs Cooper is running some more sessions over this half-term on effective revision strategies through tutor time. During tutor time yesterday she reminded the year group on the most effective strategies and how can they can practice this at home.
✔ Active Recall: Test yourself rather than just reading notes.
✔ Teach Someone: Explaining a topic to someone else is a great way to check understanding.
✔ Pomodoro Technique: Short bursts of focused work (25 minutes) followed by a break keep energy levels up.
✅ Sleep well
✅ Eat a healthy breakfast
✅ Check your exam room and seat number
✅ Pack your essentials the night before
π‘ How Parents Can Help at Home
Your encouragement makes a huge difference. Here are some practical ways to support your child:
- Create a calm space - A tidy, quiet area helps focus.
- Plan together - Use the RAG system (Red, Amber, Green) to prioritise topics, then work on those specific topics.
- Check in, not check up - Ask what went well today rather than focusing on what’s missing.
- Encourage breaks - Short walks or screen-free time help recharge.
- Keep essentials ready - Pens, paper, and healthy snacks reduce stress.
- Stay positive - Praise effort and progress, not just results.
- Wellbeing Matters
Sleep, healthy meals, and regular breaks are just as important as revision. A balanced routine helps students stay motivated and focused.
Final set of mock exams start Monday 23rd February
