1️⃣1️⃣Week 11 - Update

It was fantastic to have Year 11 back in the hall for the first time since mock exams. This assembly was an opportunity to celebrate achievements and share important messages about how to respond to feedback.

Mr Cooper, Deputy Head led the main session, focusing on:
  • Mock to Mock - We explained the value of having two sets of mock exams. The first set is about learning the process: managing time, following exam protocols, and understanding how to prepare effectively. By practising these skills now and responding to feedback, students free up more capacity in their working memory for the summer exams. This means less stress and more focus on applying knowledge when it matters most.
  • The Invisible Gorilla - This concept highlights selective attention. When students receive feedback, their attention often goes straight to the score or percentage. While grades matter, the real value lies in understanding what the feedback tells them - exam technique, structure, timing, and those small but powerful improvements known as marginal gains.

(I may have already given the game away, but it’s still a great one to share with the family at home if they haven’t seen it yet!)

Next week, there will be no cohort assembly. Instead, students will attend House Assemblies each morning.
 

🏠 House Assemblies Next Week

Year 11 students should register in the Small Hall before entering assembly each day:
  • Monday 1st - Kimmeridge
  • Tuesday 2nd - Avon
  • Wednesday 3rd - Southbourne
  • Thursday 4th - Mudeford
  • Friday 5th - Hengistbury

📚 Library Access - Before and After School

In response to student feedback for a warm, quiet space:
  • Library is open from 08:10 until tutor time and 15:15-16:00 after school.
  • Breakfast Club remains open in Food Technology from 08:15 until tutor time.
  • Working Lunch continues for Year 11 during lunchtime.
  • Room 23 is now open at lunch, led by Sixth Form students - a space to eat, relax and even join an Uno game!

🎭 Grease - Tickets on Sale

We are thrilled to announce that our 2026 school musical will be Grease! Step back into the fabulous 1950s and join us at Rydell High for an unforgettable evening of music, dance, and fun.

Performance Dates:
  • Tuesday 10 February
  • Wednesday 11 February
  • Thursday 12 February
Tickets: £11 adults / £8.50 seniors & under 18s (bookable seats). Book early to avoid disappointment!

An update from Mr Sloane: "The students have been working incredibly hard in rehearsals for the Priory Christmas service and Grease. We have been so impressed with their endless enthusiasm and commitment, especially over the mock period when we know balancing everything can be tricky. The Christmas service takes place at the Priory on Tuesday 9th December, 7:30PM. And Grease tickets are now on sale through the school website, the show nights are 10th-12th, see you there!"

🎄 Getting Ready for Christmas

Christmas Lunch for students will be on 16 December at lunchtime. Pre-order via Arbor Shop (orders open now).

Menu:
  • Turkey with Yorkshire Pudding, Roasties, Veg & Gravy
  • OR Roasted Vegetable, Cranberry & Cheese Puff
  • Dessert: Cinnamon Popcorn Chocolate Brownie OR Christmas Cookie
Price: £3.50 (Free for FSM students, but still requires an order).

🎁 Christmas Giving -Get Involved

Our Sixth Form tutor groups will be donating Christmas presents for local underprivileged children who may not otherwise receive gifts this year. We’d love to encourage main school students and families to join in too.

More details will follow through tutor notices, but here’s what you need to know:

  • Gifts can be for any age, from toddlers to 16-year-olds.
  • Presents should be new or in new condition and unwrapped.
  • Keep an eye on tutor notices for collection points and deadlines.

This is a wonderful way for our school community to make a real difference and spread some festive cheer. If you’re looking for something meaningful to do as a family this Christmas, this is a great opportunity!

Hello Year 11 families! We’re now into the second week of the academic year, and it’s been fantastic to see our students settling into routines, embracing challenges, and showing real commitment to making this year count. Here’s your weekly roundup of everything happening in Year 11. It’s been a brilliant start across the school. Teachers are challenging students, and students are rising to meet those expectations with hard work and focus. Feedback from staff and learning walks has been overwhelmingly positive - professional relationships between students and teachers are strong, and the mantra “hard now, easy later” is really taking root.
